Fire Protection Certification

The Flame Safe Panel System is developed, manufactured, inspected and tested in accordance with ASTM-E-84, Underwriters Laboratories (U.L.) UL-723.

  1. Fire protection, independent laboratory certification by U.L. is available on request or on the U.L. web site at www.UL.com/database/index/htm in section BLBT - building units, file number R14339.
  2. The Flame Safe Panel System has been tested and classified in accordance with ASTM-E-84. The test method utilized was UL-723, the Steiner Tunnel Test, to measure flame spread and total smoke developed.
    1. Class I utilizing treated particleboard manufactured by Weyerhaeuser, Duraflake division, tested in accordance with ASTM-E-84 and conforms to the commercial standard AMSI- A-208.1.
      • This classification is achieved utilizing .030” thick high-pressure decorative laminates used in the assembly of Flame Safe Panel Systems which conform to the relevant standards of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) NEMA-LD-3 for appearance, thickness and performance properties. These HPL decorative laminates are manufactured by Formica Corporation, Wilsonart International, and Nevamar Corporation. These decorative laminates also conform to the requirements of ASTM-E-84 Class I fire ratings.
      • Class I fire rating for real wood veneers utilizing the above referenced Weyerhaeuser Duraflake fire-rated.
    2. Class II utilizing non fire-rated industrial grade particleboard with non fire-rated HPL decorative laminate.
    3. Class II and III utilizing non fire-rated plywood with non fire-rated HPL decorative laminate.
    4. Class III utilizing non fire-rated medium density fiberboard (MDF) with non fire-rated HPL decorative laminate.
    5. Class III utilizing non fire-rated honeycomb core with non fire-rated HPL decorative laminate.
  3. Product Certification These products will be U.L. labeled to certify that the composite panels has been manufactured and assembled to their appropriate fire-rated classifications. This U.L. label will warranty that strict adherence to the applicable fire codes are in force.
  4. Quality Assurance Custom Plastics participates in the U.L. Follow-Up Service Program to assure strict compliance in accordance with the documented approved manufacturing procedures. This Follow-Up Service Program consists of constant on-going quality assurance audits and evaluations of all production procedures for compliance.
