About Custom Plastics
Custom Plastics was established in 1974 by Skip and Jennifer Spence,
offering quality manufactured and installed countertops. The success
of the countertop division enabled the birth of the High Pressure
Laminating and Flame Safe Panel Divisions in 1990.
The Marine Panel Division followed in 2002.
Quality products and outstanding service have allowed Custom Plastics
to expand extensively throughout North America. Custom Plastics Marine
Panel Systems are now being shipped
throughout the world. Skip Spence retains full control of the business
as the President and C.E.O. He attributes
the company's growth to a simple philosophy practiced by all Custom Plastics
employees:
"Quality and service to all customers is #1".
The Facility
Custom Plastics' is located in Folsom, California, just east of Sacramento. The
home office and
manufacturing facility are located in a cluster of adjacent buildings housing
a state of the art panel and countertop production facility.

High Pressure Laminate Division
Custom Plastics manufactures pre-laminated high-pressure laminate (HPL) panels
for cabinets,
furniture, office systems, shelving, fixtures, millwork and countless other
applications.
This division recently installed a new Homag C.N.C. router with two
operating 6x10
tables. The Homag router offers the newest technology
available through modernized German ingenuity. This enables this division to
make virtually any component for any application.
Flame Safe Panel Division
The Flame Safe Panel Division was formed in 1991 for the purpose of providing
fire resistant
components for commercial application. It has evolved into a complete turn-key
system that works
great in commercial heavy traffic areas including:

- Airports
- Government Facilities
Attractive laminates, including real wood and and metal coverings now make
these panels a durable and safe
interior building material for many other purposes:

In 1991, the Flame Safe Panel Division passed the Underwriters’ Laboratory
(U.L.)
Class I fire rating, which has been utilized extensively for 14 years. These
composite panels have been utilized for school wall panel systems, airport
bridges and terminals, court houses, legislatures, and any other application
where a durable, fire-retardant wall panel system is needed.
Since the original testing in 1991, the Flame Safe Panel Division has passed a
total of
15 U.L. fire rated Classifications. These are for particleboard Class I, II
and III, plywood Class I, II and III, Class III for MDF, Honeycomb, real wood
veneers Class I and other unique applications.
Marine Panel Division
Custom Plastics formed an alliance with PROMAT,
the international market leader in
passive fire protection and high temperature insulation. PROMAT supplies the
lightweight, fire-retardant core panels in
Custom Plastics Marine Panel Systems. Custom Plastics is responsible for the
sales amd marketing of marine
passive fire protection products and systems to the international shipbuilding
market.
In 2002, the Marine Panel Division passed United States Coast Guard (U.S.C.G.)
certification for Marine Panel Systems for bulkheads (walls) and overheads
(ceilings)
for all types of ships, barges, ferries, drill rigs, work boats, or any other
use
requiring a U.S.C.G. certification. Custom Plastics is the only panel
manufacturer
in North America to pass these tests and maintain U.S.C.G. certification.
The Marine Panel Division has another laminating line for doing specialty
products
utilizing foam, aluminum, stainless steel, F.R.P, Pepwood, and a variety of
special materials.
Countertop Division
Custom Plastics flagship Countertop division remains a leading provider of high
quality custom countertops for
residential and commercial applications. A wide range of countertops products
are manufactured.

Custom Plastics is an active member of the Woodwork
Institute
(WIC - formerly the Woodwork Institute of California)), which insures
that the materials produced are in accordance with the highest standards.
Skip Spence remains committed to
improving the subcontractor position in the woodwork industry.
His accomplishments include: past president of WIC,
past president of the ASA (American Subcontractor Association) Capitol City
Chapter,
and Board of Director for CILC (Construction Industry Legislative Council).
He is currently active with WIC as secretary/treasurer.
